EYELINER INSIGHTS

  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 24 hours before your appointment
Why: Alcohol and caffeine thin the blood, which can increase bleeding during the procedure. Excessive bleeding can lead to pigment displacement, causing the ink to fade unevenly or heal improperly.

  • Do not wear contact lenses on the day of the procedure
Why: Contact lenses can cause irritation during the procedure, and it’s important to keep the eyes as comfortable and unaffected as possible. Bring your glasses to the appointment and wait at least 24 hours after the procedure before wearing contacts again.

  • No lash extensions or lash lifts for at least 2 weeks prior
Why: Lash extensions or lash lifts can interfere with the tattooing process and increase the risk of infection. Lash extensions increase risk of hair follicle irritation if lash extensions are placed incorrectly over more than one natural lash. If this occurs, one lash may be growing out slower than the other, causing the extension to tug on the slower growing lash causing the irritation. While lash lifts use chemicals to alter the eyelash in order to redirect the curl of the lash, this chemical process raises risk of altering the PH level of the skin around the eye. The skin around the eyes needs to be as clean and free of product and abrasions as possible.

  • Stop using lash serums at least 1 month before your appointment
Why: Lash serums often make the skin more sensitive and dilate capillaries on the eyelid, which can lead to increased risk of irritation, swelling, bruising and pigment migration during the tattooing process. Stopping lash serums will help reduce skin sensitivity and ensure a smoother procedure.

  • Avoid using retinol, acids, or exfoliating products near the eye area for 1-2 weeks before the procedure
Why: These products can thin the skin and make it more prone to irritation during tattooing. Thinner skin is more sensitive and can affect pigment retention, leading to uneven healing.

  • No Botox or fillers for at least 2 weeks before your appointment
Why: Botox or filler treatments can temporarily change the shape and positioning of your eyes. For the most accurate and long-lasting results, it’s important that your eyes are in their natural state when the tattooing is done.

  • Stay hydrated and get plenty of rest before your appointment
Why: Proper hydration and rest will help your skin and body handle the tattooing process more easily. Well-hydrated skin absorbs pigment better, and a rested body will experience less swelling and irritation during the procedure.

  • Avoid sun exposure or tanning for at least 2 weeks prior
Why: Sunburned or tanned skin is more sensitive and can result in complications during healing. Protect your skin from the sun and avoid tanning beds leading up to your appointment.

  • Do not apply numbing cream at home before your procedure

Why: Numbing needs to be done immediately before tattooing begins. Numbing the skin will alter the cellular structure of the skin, this will slightly alter the shape of the eye increasing risk of incorrect mapping. Equally Importantly, If applied too far ahead of tattooing, the numbing will wear off and increase sensitivity for the eye.

  • Consult your doctor if you are on blood thinners or medications

Why: Certain medications, such as blood thinners, can increase bleeding during the procedure, and also raise your chances of bruising, which may affect how well the pigment settles into the skin. It's important to consult your doctor to seek medical clearance for peace of mind, prior to booking your appointment.

These pre-care steps are vital to ensure your skin and eyes are in the best condition for the procedure, allowing for optimal results and smooth healing.

Pre-Care

  • Clean your eyes 4 times per day with distilled or cooled boiled water and a cotton swab (one for each eye) for the first 3 days then twice per day
Why: Gently cleaning your eyes with cooled boiled water helps remove any build-up of lymph fluid, keeping the area clean and reducing the risk of infection. It also promotes healing and ensures the pigment sets evenly. No aftercare balm should be applied. Most balm product applied to the eyelids may run into the eye, we do not want to risk any product going into the eye. It’s important to let the skin breathe and heal naturally without any interference.

  • Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes
Why: The skin around your eyes is sensitive after the procedure, and touching or rubbing the area can introduce bacteria, leading to infection. It can also disrupt the healing process and cause pigment to fade or heal unevenly.

  • No makeup or skincare products on the treated area for at least 7-10 days
Why: Makeup and skincare products can irritate the treated area and introduce bacteria, which may slow the healing process or lead to infection. Avoid applying anything to the eye area until it is fully healed.

  • Avoid sweating and excessive moisture
Why: For the first week, avoid activities that cause excessive sweating or moisture around your eyes, such as intense workouts, saunas, or swimming. Sweat can affect pigment retention, also introduce bacteria to the area and slow the healing process.

  • Avoid sun exposure or tanning during healing
Why: Sun exposure can cause the pigment to fade prematurely and may result in uneven healing. Protect your eyes from the sun by wearing sunglasses or a hat when outdoors until the area is fully healed.

  • Do not wear contact lenses for 24 hours after the procedure
Why: Wearing contact lenses immediately after the procedure can irritate the eyes and interfere with healing. Wait at least 24-48 hours before using contacts again to avoid unnecessary discomfort and ensure proper healing.

  • No lash extensions or mascara until fully healed
Why: Lash extensions, mascara, and other eye products can introduce bacteria and irritate the treated area. Wait until the eyeliner has fully healed before resuming these treatments or products to prevent infection and ensure long-lasting results.

  • Avoid sleeping on your face
Why: Sleeping with your face against the pillow can cause irritation and disturb the healing process. Try to sleep on your back to protect the treated area from rubbing or pressure.

  • Expect mild swelling and redness
Why: Mild swelling, redness, and tenderness are normal after the procedure and should subside within a few days. If you experience excessive swelling, redness, or discharge, contact your artist or a healthcare professional to rule out any complications.

  • Healing takes approximately 7-10 days
Why: The surface of the skin will heal within 7-10 days, and during this time, the eyeliner may appear darker or uneven. This is part of the normal healing process, and the final results will become visible as the skin heals and the pigment settles, around 4-8 weeks after.

Following these aftercare steps is essential to ensure proper healing and long-lasting, beautiful eyeliner results.
